Generally speaking, the more you play, the more you improve. But it also depends upon who you play. If you play players ranked in your range, ad a bit above you as well, you will improve. If you play much weaker players a lot, you may get the chance to work on some weaknesses, but as a rule, you won't improve a great deal because they are not going to give you a lot of competition.

Also, if you are practicing a technique the wrong way, then it may not help you a lot whn it comes to the actual game. So, there are many variables here that could be affecting your practice sessions or games.

Agree with Ranger-man.

Sometimes if you want to improve on certain techniques, try to work on it with somebody with similar skill level or better. Then you can improved.

If playing against weaker opponent, you may not improved but sometimes stagnant a wee bit (in my case). Now I shall play handshake style against such opponent (note : I'm a penholder) so as to get used to this style.

I play 5 days a week. I would say I have improved my game after playing more.

I don't consider the games I play everyday are to beat someone. I play to improve my strokes. I consider the games at the Friday club are at a competitive level. I work on a stroke for a while to perfect it.

Playing more will improve your consistance. When you don't perform good on a day, do a check on why you did not do good. Is it because you were tired? Is it because you did not have energy? Is it because you hit more? Those weakness can alert you when you play in a real tournament.

It's true that practice makes perfect.

I do agree with varghese that one should practice and perfect the stroke when playing table tennis unless one is involved in tournament, then that is a different issue.
