It organizes all this around players so that you can easily watch the matches with your favorite players. I have a lot of plans for the site, including adding more videos and players, and a "sit back" continuous viewing experience. Please let me know any feedback you guys have, and enjoy!JamesRead Main Topic
by totally in the zone (Posted Mon Jul 19, 2010 6:30 pm)I am posting this as a question to "spinmantra.com's" Joola Octopus Long pip review. I am currently using Curl P3 and have been using it for several months now. I am pretty happy with it, but was wondering what the difference is between p3 and octopus. What would be your reasoning to change?I'm a USATT 2000 rated player who plays a passive game of blocks on the backhand to set up foreahand shots. I try to model my style off Liu Song, although not ALL my backhand shots are chopblocks. All responses would be greatly appreciated! THanksRead Main Topic

I'm talking about the area that is near the net and the baseline. If you have watched professional table tennis matches it should be clear what I am talking about. I find it strange and I'm curious to know why they do this.Read Main Topic
by tkphd11 (Posted Mon Jul 05, 2010 7:34 am)Hello, I have tried H2 and H3 rubbers lately. I have discarded my 30 years old Stiga blade and purchased a TB Spirit. I play close to table, mostly above the table. I did not like Tenergy 05 on it (FH) - the top-spin arc was too high and I got smashed often. On my BH I used a Bryce Speed FX – both 2mm+. The backhand did not work at all since the Bryce was very jumpy on TBS. I had to close almost horizontally my blade in order to keep my fast BH topspin counter hit on table. It was so frustrating to hit often the blade edge and have wrist muscles aches daily, I had to take off both rubbers. Then I came across the Hurricane 2 info, mostly due to Wang Liquin’s usage of it. So, I ordered H2 #19 sponge for FH, and H2 Neo for BH. The black H2 NEO 2.15mm on my BH works like a charm. I can pull out any push – short or long, slow or fast with BH top-spin or side spin directed onto any place on the table. Very accurate and spin is incredible. The smashes with NEO are very powerful, either wrist smash or Kreanga style hit. When I use the Newgy robot at 27 speed or at maximum 30 robot speed, the TBS and NEO rubber spits back the balls like bullets, amazing! Very consistent, very reliable! I would not use any other rubber on my BH. I did try the H3 National blue sponge 2.2mm version ($59 direct from China, available for top Chinese players only) but have taken it off after an hour of usage. I was not happy using it from any side. It has a tremendous control and feeling, and it is fast and spiny but I like better the NEO and #19 combination, so the Hurricane blue sponge rubber is for sale, fresh from TBS blade. As to the H2 #19 sponge: it is giving so much pleasure to play with it! It is smooth as butter, no efforts to counter, smash, counter- top-spin or counter side-spin over the table, just as the ball jumps from the surface. #19 grabs it like a glue and spits it back with a huge dwelling time. Sometimes I fill I can change the direction of blade significantly and the ball is still on the rubber, then it departs exactly where I planned to send it. Amazing. When you counter, the movement is as short as you want, no dropping the racket to gain speed before impact, but you start the movement from the level of incoming ball, easy move and with wrist’s help, and max half foot move, the rubber drags the ball into the smash. Even at 60-70 miles/hr the counter hit is effortless since the rubber is doing the job; you do not have to squeeze the handle. The combination of TB Spirit and H2 #19 and NEO is so smooth and gives so much pleasure when you counter play that you can not stop practicing. I often stay for 6 hours playing with Newgy. Push is very effective, since the sticky rubbers give you tremendous control. Services are very spiny and cheap points are coming often. I am talking a ~1500 level of game. Problem #1: other than push, defensive undercut is difficult to perform, not undercut to undercut though. The NEO is effective over the table, and up to 2 steps behind it. Beyond that point, the punctuality of return suffers. It can be because I do not have those skills playing from far behind.More problems with #19: you need a 2.00mm + sponge to do your job. Also, to start short flip or push the #19 is very good, but to start a top spin /loop on push or undercut defense you have to make a huge physical effort. I always miss the first hit, it goes to the net. To start the move, you need to open the blade’s surface and make sure the acceleration is fast. The Tenergy 05 is much better, easy to start the topspin attack with. The #19 seems to be to much hard. Also, while you easily counter attack with smash like hit or top-spin, and especially with side-spin counter, the speed of the smash seems to be limited to max. 80% of that of the Tenergy 05 rubber return, or 70% of the Stiga blade catapult effect. Also, Wang uses Stiga carbo blade with H2 rubber on his FH.So, often I have to work extra to win a rally, or use the side-spin wild hit/wide swing to finish the rally, since it is almost un-returnable at my level of play due to the high spin factor both NEO and #19 rubbers provide. The #19 is acceptable to attack undercut from FH, but it comes with huge physical efforts and you have to open the racket tremendously, at ~45 degree to be able to pull out the shot; same for straight top spin hit. So, that much of H2 rubbers. I have couple questions to community:1// Is anyone able to advise me on best rubber usage with TB Spirit blade, for attacking, counter and top/ side spin counter, and also looping game, close to table? Please respond. 2// Is anyone interested in buying my H2 Blue sponge National black 2.2.mm rubber cut to TBS blade?I also have the same variation of black Globe 999 blue sponge, National black 2.2 mm rubber, new, which two China team members use, including Ma Lin?Let me know. I hope, I helped. tkphd11Read Main Topic

Buying a table is like buying any equipment, never buy cheap stuff. Go for quality even if it's a little more. Another way is to go to tournament and buy a table after it's finished. Not all, but at some tournament they would sell their tables after the competition is over.Read Main Topic

by ejunkie (Posted Sat Apr 17, 2010 1:25 am)Hi dwb. If the rubber is 25 yo I am sure it's dead even if you haven't open the package. The sponge will not perform the same after all this time. There is nothing that can bring it back I am afraid. So keep your old Mark V and Sriver for your memory but don't use them. I would be the first to be interested if you are able to find equipment from 25 years ago, stuff like old blades. Playing tt is enjoyable but you have to be in shape, and at 50 you have to work harder than when you were younger. Go walk and jump rope for starter.I am not sure what you mean by having a serious budget. If you can afford it Tenergy is the best rubber right now. It is about $55USD a piece. For a poorer man, there is Chinese rubbers like Inspirit Quattro, Blue Whale II, and Hurricane. I don't suggest that you use the same type of rubbers that you used back then. It's a different style and different game now. I think Blue Whale and Hurricane for forehand and Inspirit Quattro for backhand is a very good combination. What blade are you using?Read Main Topic

by ejunkie (Posted Fri Mar 26, 2010 11:47 am)Having play the blade again the second time the feeling has changed a little--don't know why. May be because of the weather or the new T25 I was using on the blade that last time. The blade's throw seems less low now. It's feel seems less soft too. I would put it at medium feel. I still like the combination; it has enough speed for anyone. May be I was too enthusiastic the last time I play with it. It doesn't seem to outperform some of those blades that I mentioned, but still overall for its price is better than them. Read Main Topic

by 729 fx (Posted Wed Mar 10, 2010 9:13 pm)Thirty years after their most famous encounter, old foes, or to be more polite experienced adversaries, will once again draw swords as they enter the global table tennis theatre. Sweden’s Ulf “Tickan” Carlsson and China’s Guo Yuehua will both be in action at the Volkswagen 2010 Cup – Guangzhou to be staged in the southern Chinese city on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th March 2010. No they won’t have to stretch their legs and aching muscles against the likes of Ma Long, Timo Boll and Vladimir Samsonov but they will be as determined as ever to clinch the top prize. They are competing in the Spectacular Pairs event.Ulf Carlsson will partners former Men’s World Singles champion, Jörgen Persson, whilst Guo Yuehua is in harness with the supreme showman, Chen Xinhua. On each day both pairs have a three minute session to show their skills and entertain the crowd, being marked on consistency, degree of difficulty and the spectacular element of their display. No doubt they will do that just as Ulf Carlsson and Guo Yuehua did in 1980 in the Men’s Singles final at the Scandinavian Open in Karlskrona. “I was 19 years old at the time”, reflected Ulf Carlsson. “I won three-two.” The match went the full five games distance; in those days before mobile telephones, internet uploads and ipods, games were to 21 points and singles matches in international tournaments were best of five games."It was a remarkable year, in the spring we won the Men’s Team event at the European Championships in Berne, Switzerland”, explained Ulf Carlsson. “Against both Hungary in the semi-finals and Germany in the final, I won at four-all; against Hungary I beat Istvan Jonyer then against Germany, I beat Wilfried Lieck.” In 1980 the system of play in the Men’s Team event at the European Championships was different to that witnessed today; it was very simple, three players in a team and nine singles matches. Carlsson’s team mates in those memorable matches were Stellan Bengtsson and Ulf Thorsell, both left handers but very different; Erik Lindh and Mikael Appelgren were the upstarts. They had to sit on the bench and watch!Guo Yuehua reached the Men’s Singles final at the World Championships on four consecutive occasions, in 1977 and 1979 he was the runner up; in 1981 and 1983 he was the winner. “I have no idea how I beat Guo Yuehua”, confessed Ulf Carlsson. “Every round I just got better and better; the incredible support from the Swedish fans really lifted me; I won the first game, then I lost the next two and I was down in the fourth before recovering to win the game 21-19.”The crowd was delirious and Ulf Carlsson responded.“After winning the fourth game, everything I did went right”, smiled Ulf Carlsson. “I was in the zone, I think only twice in my career did I ever experienced that feeling, I remember every point, it was amazing, a fantastic year.” Undoubtedly, it was one of Ulf Carlsson’s best ever performances.Nostalgia but now Ulf Carlsson is looking forward to playing again as his 50th birthday approaches.“I’m nervous about playing in Guangzhou but I’m looking forward to the competition”, concluded Ulf Carlsson. “I’m regularly in the table tennis hall these days but outside the court, not inside; however, I’m preparing!Good preparations and that is what secured victory for Sweden in the memorable Men’s Team final at the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur in 2000 when Sweden beat China in a gripping full distance contest. Jörgen Persson won the vital last match when he beat Liu Giuoliang, the coach on duty for Sweden was Ulf Carlsson; in Kuala Lumpur ten years ago it was unbridled Swedish joy.Ten years later Jörgen Persson and Ulf Carlsson are together again; Karlskrona in 1980 was spectacular, Kuala Lumpur in 2000 was spectacular; so when the year ends in zero on fact is certain from Ulf Carlsson.Ulf Carlsson and Jörgen Persson plus Guo Yuehua and Chen Xinhua will line up alongside Japan’s Koji Matsushita and Hiroshi Shibutani, brothers Jean-Michel and Philippe Saive plus the one female partnership on duty, Hungary’s Krisztina Toth and the Czech Republic’s Renata Strbikova.Meanwhile, the star names confirmed that will compete in the Volkswagen 2010 Cup – Guangzhou; the competition being organised on the knock-out principle:Men: Ma Long (CHN), Timo Boll (GER), Vladimir Samsonov (BLR), Michael Maze (DEN), Jun Mizutani (JPN), Joo Se Hyuk (KOR), Werner Schlager (AUT), Cheung Yuk (HKG)Women: Liu Shiwen (CHN), Feng Tianwei (SIN), Kim Kyung Ah (KOR), Jiang Huajun (HKG), Wu Jiaduo (GER), Liu Jia (AUT), Li Jiao (NED), Ai Fukuhara (JPN) (Note : Source from ITTF News)Read Main Topic

The winners of the Men’s and Women’s Singles events each pocket US$50,000 and drive away in a Volkswagen Tiguan Saloon car.Ma Lin and Liu Shiwen may well start as the favourites for gold in the Asian Cup but both will face strong opposition; especially from their compatriots. Zhang Jike, the 2008 winner of the Men’s Singles event at the Chinese National Championships and Xu Xin, the Men’s Singles champion at the recent Qatar Open, are both on duty; whilst similarly for Liu Shiwen, there are two in form players from China who will pose a definite threat - Guo Yan who retained her Women’s Singles crown at the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals in Macau in January and Guo Yue, the Women’s Singles winner at the Qatar Open in February.Meanwhile, from beyond the borders of China, Hong Kong’s Ko Lai Chak, Singapore’s Gao Ning and Yang Zi plus India’s Sharath Kamal Achanta will all be seeking to impose their presence.Similarly, in the Women’s Singles event, Singapore’s Fen Tianwei and Wang Yue Gu will present formidable opposition as will four other young ladies.
